International Remittance and Mobile, a Perfect Match

HomeSend, which is a strategic business partnership between BICS and eServGlobal, is a global hubbing service that enables person-to-person transfers. It builds on the successful deployment of mobile financial services across the world and aims to bridge the gap between the finance and telecommunication worlds.

HomeSend makes it possible to integrate mobile wallets or money transfer systems of two different providers. Besides facilitating services that are mobile centric from sender to receiver, HomeSend also provides access to other service providers, such as money transfer organisations and banks.

The HomeSend solution also enables domestic interoperability between different mobile wallet deployments.

What Are the Benefits for Mobile Operators?

For the mobile operators, the HomeSend service enables:

  • their subscribers to transfer value (airtime or mobile money) to a foreign subscriber
  • their subscribers to receive value (airtime or mobile money) from a foreign subscriber
  • their subscribers to recharge their prepaid credit while abroad using a top-up product from a foreign operator (outbound roamers)
  • foreign subscribers to recharge their prepaid credit using the operator’s top-up products (inbound roamers)

HomeSend offers the advantages typically associated with a hubbing service and a managed service. It offers immediate reach to the whole world through a single technical and commercial interface with the hub as well as requiring limited opex and capex from the member operators.

Additionally, as already experienced with other mobile data services (such as SMS and MMS), once the market develops, mobile operators will have to manage multiple remittance relations and will therefore increasingly rely on a multilateral solution, such as HomeSend.
